It is with a heavy heart that I notify you of the passing of Ken Carnes. His wife, Dorothy, was by his side and the family has been visiting regularly since early October. Ken was such a patient, positive and faith-filled man, and if you didn't follow his posts on Facebook, particularly in the past year, you should check for them. While he faced the biggest fight for his life, he faced it with the most grace I have seen. He never blamed God, he remained positive, and he always was more interested in humanity and in us being good to one another than in him feeling sorry for himself, even when he had plenty of reason to do so.
Ken and Dorothy were high school sweethearts since their senior year. They dated for 5 years before they married, and they were married for 56 years! They have 2 sons and 5 grandchildren. They enjoyed family time and especially loved to travel. They traveled to every state except for NJ and CT.
Ken taught middle school - you had to be patient to do that! He was instrumental in building a strong music program in the school that included guitar and piano labs. He enrolled kids in musical competitions, and he and Dorothy would take kids into Chicago by bus from Iowa so they could be exposed to musicals! That's commitment!
Dorothy was able to reach out to Facebook, and they provided her with a hard-covered book of his pictures and postings for 2024/2025. Such a gift that will be treasured, I am sure. In my opinion, this is social media being used for good!
His memorial service will be Saturday, December 6th at 1:00 at Spirit of Grace. Spirit of Grace is located at 15820 W Clearview, in Grand.
Please keep Dorothy and the entire Carnes family in your thoughts and prayers. It would be so nice to drop a note or a card in the mail to Dorothy, even if you didn't know Ken. Many of you know how Dorothy is feeling, and for those of us who don't, we can only imagine! Here is her address:
